Location

The main location we will use for filming will be the food technology room in school this is the most authentic way of filming what we want. As there is a cooking competition taking place this is the most realistic place to shoot it. We first needed to ask permission to use this room in school as it is not being used at the moment but once we got permission is was fine.

Location Pictures on PhotoPeach

Recreating a Trailer planning

The Story line to thunderstruck is that there's a person who is really good at basketball and then an underdog who is not so good. They swap abilities and the one who is not so good becomes amazing at basketball. We are going to try our best to make the remake as similar to the real thing with some changes as some parts we are unable to do.

Brain Storm

This is a brainstorm of what type of factors contribute to making a trailer and what a trailer includes. We've tried to include all the different genres and pick out common themes which occur during them.

Mood Board

This is the mood board we created to represent the trailer we are trying to make. As the film is about cakes we've made our mood board very food orientated and tries to stick to bright colors that would remind you of cakes.

One Sentence Pitch

Timeline of a Trailer

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
0:12

The trailer first established shot sets the scenery for the film, it shows a a lot of trees and a lake in the middle. The weather looks dull and gloomy maybe suggesting that is it set in a place that gets worse weather and it might rain quite a lot. The music in the background of this shot is quite spooky, this may show the genre of the film creating a sense of creepy woods, dull, gloomy background and with the music just builds on the fact that the aim to it to be spooky.

0:16
The next shot is what you may assume are the two main characters, as the film is part of a sequel, so if you have watched the first two films you have some indication of what the film will be about. The way the characters are sitting might suggest that they have a romantic relationship and they are hugging and sitting very close which could mean that they may be boyfriend and girlfriend. Also the male character 'Edward Cullen' is speaking in the background saying that he 'promises to love her, every moment forever'

0:18

The next shot just confirms the thoughts on the shot before, it shows them very close and he is touching her arm which defiantly suggests that they are romantically involved. The music in the background suggest love as well, as it is quite slow and calming. The background you can see pretty flowers and an open wide space this could relate to their relationship that they are open with each other and share something special. The shot starts off on them close and slowly zooms out this is so the audience can see the whole length of them and you can see their body language which confirms what you are thinking in the pervious shot.

0:24

Again if you are a follower of these films you know what has happened in the previous ones and you know that they have promised the voltury that they will make her human. It is clear to them that she is still human and they are saying they don't give second chances. The way they are walking and what the scenery is like behind them and it seems as if they are walking they have some sort of mist behind them. This is to try and make them seem scary, with them in a line is to try and create a gang like look. The fact that a girl is leading the 'pack' suggests that she is scary and people are scared to question her.

0:30

The next shot is a shot to give the audience some information about what is behind the film and where it came from. It is informing us that it is from a world wide bestseller, if you haven't seen the previous films this gives you an appeal to go and watch it because it is from a best seller.

0:31

This shot shows the two leads in bed together, quite close she is asking him ' why he is so against her becoming like him' and the way he looks at her shows true love. The fact they ate intimate and in bed shows their relationship could be quite serious and he replies ' i know the consequences that it will bring' he is trying to protect her because he loves her.

0:38

0:39
These shots are trying to establish the relationship she has with the people. It first shows her and he dad, then her hugging her mum, these are all trying to make her feel guilty because if she changes herself all these people she loves and they love her she will loose.

0:43
The shot tells you that there could be a problem in the middle of the film as a second love interest appears telling her that she doesn't have to change for him and he loves her. The way he is holding her hand and looking into her eyes shows that maybe he genuinely does love her, he has real passion for what he is saying and this could be a potential love interest for him.

0:49
This is just a short shot informing us that now she has to make a choice. Does she pick the life with edward and loose her family or can she pick the life with Jacob and she doesn't have to change for him.

0:54

The mise en scene in this shot is very clever, is
shows a beautiful landscape in the background, and she is looking out to sea. This could suggest that she is trying to make that decision and she is indecisive and the relaxing, calming background is helping her trying to do this.

0:57
This shot is just informing the audience what date the film is released on. They use a continuing background whenever the trailer has words appearing on the screen.

1:06

This part of the trailer is a returning character from the previous films, that if you watched would know could cause masses of trouble. She is after Bella Swan and the action shot of her jumping may suggest that someone is chasing her and she is trying to get away from them. Bella is talking over the top of this shot saying' she's come back for me' this is distressing for both her and Edward and even Jacob as they are trying to protect her. The background in the shot is just adding on to a previous shot showing them in a creepy woods making it seem quite sinister, this is all adding towards the genre of the film.

1:20
This shot is showing that Jacob will 'fight for her, until her heart stops beating' the fact that he is topless is giving him the stereotypical look of a strong, young man who could be the hero. He is slightly to the left of the shot but your eyes still focus on him when looking at the shot.

1:26

1:30

These two short shots are just ending the trailer with the name of the film and finally the date it is released. This is so the last bit of information the audience gets is the date of release which will persuade them to go and see the film. IT sort of ends on a cliff hanger so it makes you want to go and see it. Most trailers do this because is creates demand for the film and leaves you wanting more.

Comparison of Trailers

The five trailers i have looked at all differ in some way, i have looked at films of different genre and that appeal to different audiences. By analyzing the trailers i can tell what characteristic join with the genre, audience, length etc. Some are common and are you can predict when they occur when others are not.

The first trailer i looked at was a film called 'the impossible' straight away you could tell it was a true story as it showed events from a disaster which is commonly reconsigned it was very fast pace as some of the other trailer such as the dark knight rises. There was a lot of action shown in the trailer and also emotion you could tell that it was going to create graphic events which could be distressing. The action films i looked at were all fast pace and showed snippets of action which made you want to watch the film, it gives you an overview of what the film has to offer and its potential. Some trailers do this more than others and i think that depends on how much you want to go and see the film after watching the trailer.

The other three trailers i looked at were more comedy and romantic films and again these trailers differed from the action ones, the trailers always had happy, upbeat music in the background which tried to represent the effect that the film was giving off. You can tell what type of film it was going to be right at the beginning of the trailer, Easy A you can tell is a girly film that some girls might be able to relate to, however '10 years later' is a film similar to american pie the reunion and can tell it is trying to appeal to middle aged people maybe early twenties who have recently left school or college and they may be able to relate to going back and re meeting their old school mates. Straight away you could tell it was humor as as he hits himself in the face, it tries to show you the best parts of the film so persuade you to go and see it. These three trailers compared to the first two i looked at differed a lot, the genre was different which played a major part in the differences between the trailers but 'the impossible' and ' the dark knight rises' have quick shots which are cut short so they show small snippets of what could be the potential best parts in the film, where the other three trailers were slower shots and showed more of what was actually happening in the film.

A lot of trailer have similar charasteristics and common themes and factors that bring them all together to form a good trailer, some are better than others depending on what kind of genre you like and what type of film suits you. Some trailers are more effective and i feel create a demand for people to go and see them where some are more boring and don't create a need for you to want to see more.

Trailer 5

The Dark Knight Rises

The music in the background is quite sinister and creates a creepy atmosphere, theres a brief statement about the film 'epic conconlusion' which gives the watcher some clue of what might happen during the trailer. It mentions the release date so people are informed of when the film is out. There only seems top be one female in the trailer and the fact that she is whispereing seems that she has knowledge of something she doesnt want anyone knowing.

Trailer 4

Easy A

There is a constant narrator in the background but it is the main character of the film 'Emma Stone' she is directly talking to the audience 'you' and keeping you involved in the plot. There is a constant fun song in the background giving you some indication of the genre of the film and the general feel to the film. It is quite past pace cutting from shot to shot very quickly andi t gives you snippets of the filmm so you can get the gist of the plot but not giving it too much away.

Trailer 3

10 Years Later

You can tell straight away that the film is about a reunion from the opening of the trailer, humour is portrayed as he hits himself in the face when he is int he car, this gives teh audience some indication what the film may be about and what type of genre the film may be. Questions appear throughout the trailer to direct the audience of what might be happening at the time. It is trying to relate to a certain type of audience that may be able to relate to the plot.

Trailer 2

The Big Wedding

The first part of the trailer could repersent that the film may be funny and have sexual tendicies in it, it is clear that religion is part of the film and that it is a main factor in the story lin. Even though ther eis negative parts of the trailer a happy songs always remains in the background. Comman facters that occur in the trailer are humour, love and hate at the same time.

Trailer 1

5 different trailer

The Impossible

This film is about a true story, the tsunami that occurred in 2001 in Thailand, it creates flash backs from the real event and tries to portray the most authentic view of what happened. You can tell that the film will be emotional as some people may die, they do this to try and grab the audience as straight away they are playing on their emotions. From the title of the film it tells us that its going to include action and they may achieve something that is unlikely to happen. The music in the background also creates the emotion and makes you feel sympathetic for the characters. Some parts of the trailer are in slow motion and it makes the audience really concentrate on what is happening. The trailer shows small snippets of action so the audience get an outline view on what the film will be about and persuade you to go see it in the cinema.
